Once my 12-point Stag was down, the animal was immediately field dressed and taken to the butcher, who professionally cut and vacuum sealed all my meat. Then the mount was delivered to a professional taxidermist who will have my mount completed in about six months. Lodging was exceptional, a nice cabin overlooking a beautiful Maine lake. Also available to me and my hunting buddies was a rifle range to sight in our weapons after the airlines roughed them up. I can't say enough about this hunt, but again, a hunt of a life time! We offer some of the best upland bird, whitetail deer and turkey hunting in Kansas. We have archery, black powder and rifle hunts for Whitetail Deer. Our country has a lot of cropland, with woodlots and wooded creek bottoms mixed in. We have a good deer population, with some very nice bucks. On average, our deer hunters enjoy 80-85% opportunity on 140+ plus bucks, with a number of really nice bucks taken. Our Spring turkey hunters usually have 100% shot opportunity. Archery season takes place during the pre-rut and goes through the rut and post-rut. Rifle season generally starts at the tail end of the rut/post rut. All bowhunting is done from tree stands overlooking trails leading to and from bedding/feeding areas. During rifle season you will generally hunt mornings and evenings from tree stands or good ground blinds. We also have excellent pheasant and quail hunting. North Central Kansas generally has great habitat for upland birds, and our properties are no exception. We have a brand new, fully furnished lodge that we built in 2001, with all the comforts of home, washer/dryer, satellite tv, etc. Meals are the responsibility of the hunter, and we make available to you the kitchen/cooking facilities in our lodge at no extra charge. We had deer harvested from the 120's to the 160's. Our rifle hunts were a 100% success, and our archery hunts were 50%. We were hoping to harvest some 170BC+ but the hunters just couldn't  get on them quick enough!   We have added more acreage for this hunting season, bringing the total up to well over 6000 free ranging acres. Our goal here at Double D is to make your hunting experience successful as well as enjoyable.  David Donaldson, the owner, believes in full satisfaction. No matter whether you are rifle hunting for whitetail, or just turkey hunting for 2 days, everyone gets treated with the same hospitality. We mainly rely on repeats and referrals. I was actually a hunting client when I first met David. I was so impressed with how he welcomed everybody in our party and gave 110% to make sure we were pleased. He got so caught up in measuring our deer, we forgot to pay for the hunt. I later called him on the way home to tell him, and he said "Just mail it to me when you get time" I knew that he wasn't all about the money like a lot of outfitters.  We are primarily a bow hunting operation, but we offer a very limited number of rifle hunts along with one on one guided management hunts for whitetail.
