INTRODUCTION
Our Safari Outfitting business was founded in 1993. The establishment
and development of Numzaan Safaris, today one of South Africa’s premier
outfitters, was largely due to our profound love for nature, conservation
and hunting. Today we are run as a family enterprise and arguably
the leading outfitter in Southern Africa enjoying excellent rates and booking
conditions which translates into the best possible value for money to you,
our valued customer.
Our base camp is situated on the upper reaches of the Crocodile River in
the Limpopo Province, on the ranch Vaalkop. Vaalkop is to be found
in Koedoeskop (Kudu’s hill), only two hours drive North West of Johannesburg
International Airport in an area blessed with a pristine environment in
the beautiful Waterberg mountain range.
From our base camp at Koedoeskop we hunt on more than 80 000 hectares (200000
acres) of carefully selected prime hunting concessions. Our concessions
are handpicked for the quality of not only the trophies, but also the hunting
experience. In South Africa we also have concessions in the provinces of
Kwa-Zulu Natal, Freestate and the Eastern Cape. We also offer hunts
in Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Botswana and Mozambique.
Nature and wildlife is one of the biggest tourist attractions to South
Africa - possibly the most exotic and unique destination in the world. Our
safari outfit, due to its partnership with nature and conservation, is a
proud and well-known icon contributing to the global success of the South
African hunting industry. We maintain the highest standards and boasts
many international awards.
With the exception of organizing your return flights to South Africa (Johannesburg),
all your transportation needs will be taken care of. A Numzaan Safaris representative
will pick you up, at no additional costs, from Johannesburg International
Airport and transfer you to the hunting location. Transportation during
your hunt is by fully equipped hunting vehicles and/or mini coach.
As a general rule, a typical hunting day consists of a wake-up call before
dawn (06:00 AM); dress and get ready for the hunt; hot beverage with toast
is served; depart for the day’s hunt; brunch is served at 11:00 back in
the camp; a short siesta to refresh; hunt until dusk; return to camp; shower
and change of clothes; drinks around camp fire; dinner and conversation;
retire to bed.
Our well-trained staff handles all field preparation. Hides will be meticulously
skinned and chemically preserved. Your trophies will be delicately
tagged with your name prior to being transported free of charge to our local
Taxidermist. We will do all necessary documentation and
arrangements to have your trophies safely and legally exported.
We are passionate about hunting, have an absolute commitment to quality
and offer exceptional trophies in a picture perfect setting. We are your gateway
to Africa!

WHAT TO EXPECT
Although most of Africa is third world, South Africa is an exception evident
especially in the urban areas of our country. By far the largest part of
South Africa however remain rural where our “bush” is similar to other remote
areas of the world, so expect to be isolated and removed from the environment
you are accustomed to. Your safari camp however is a classic example of an
oasis in the wilderness and a comfortable haven to retire following a most
exciting day of hunting. At night you can indulge yourself in the millions
of bright African stars creating a magical atmosphere.
There are two very distinct types of hunting in South Africa i.e., on game
ranches and government designated safari areas divergent to concessions
and communal or tribal trust land, where there are no fences. On a game
ranch, such as to be found in South Africa there is a perimeter fence, but
the game move freely, and hunts are strictly fair chase. The trophy quality
of most plains game are generally better on ranches, so much so that we
take their clients to a ranch for plains game after they have harvested
their dangerous game, i.e., Elephant, Lion and Buffalo.
Your professional hunter (PH) always has complete authority during the
safari and controls the camp and staff. His authority may not be challenged.
Any disagreements or complaints should be discussed in private with the
PH IMMEDIATELY, NOT AFTER THE HUNT. You must observe and strictly
adhere to all game and firearm laws and regulations of your host country.
You should not aim or shoot at any animal or bird without the prior permission
from your PH. Animals which are wounded by you will be pursued and dispatched
by the PH. You may accompany the chase only at the PH’s discretion. A wounded
and lost animal shall be charged as a kill.
Dangerous game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and hippo) if not killed
outright by you, will immediately be dispatched by the PH. Should the wounded
animal flee, the PH will pursue it. You may not take part in such pursuit
if the PH deems it unsafe for you, himself or his trackers.
Firearms will be kept unloaded at all times until commencement of the
hunt. No liquor, beer or wine shall be consumed during or immediately preceding
the hunt. You should conduct yourself as a gentleman or lady in a sportsmanlike
fashion at all times. If for any reason you should terminate your safari,
no refund whatsoever will be made.
We are widely known for producing the most distinctive and sought after
trophies. Expect superb hunting with expert guides and a memorable experience
on vacation with us – Your Gateway to Africa!

Our hunting season runs from 1st February until 30th November. Temperatures

special dietary request, kindly advise us in advance and we’ll gladly make

PERMITS
Every hunter need to specify, in order of preference, the species they
wish to hunt when booking the safari. We will liaise with local
authorities to ensure all national permits are obtained and regulations
adhered to. In the event that you wish to hunt any of the species mentioned
in appendix 1 or 2 of CITES you must make sure you have all the necessary
documentation prior to your safari. Our office will gladly assist
you in this regard.
FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION
Depending on the area and species of hunting, shots are taken on average
at 100 meters. We recommend that all rifles be zeroed in at this distance.
A minimum caliber of .270 is recommended. No semi automatic firearms
are permitted in South Africa and will be confiscated at customs.
The requirements for importing a firearm/s into South Africa has been updated
and became effective on 1 July 2004. (Please refer to the above link
for more information and the applicable documentation and forms to be adhered
to by visitor) For Buffalo, Rhino, Elephant and Hippo a minimum caliber
of .375 is recommended. All calibers bigger than this are welcome.
40 Rounds per rifle is recommended. Police officials will issue a
temporary import/export permit at no costs at port of entry. Legislation
governing international flights demands that rifles and ammunition be transported
in separate lockable cases. A soft case is recommended for day-to-day
movement of the firearm during your safari. We have a wide range of firearms
available for your convenience if you prefer not to travel with your own
firearm. Contact your local customs office prior to departure to
get all necessary information applicable to legally export your firearm.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
For your guests and non-hunters, we offer a choice of several walking trails
with some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable around the base camp
and in the mountains. At certain times of the year exquisite species of
wild flowers can be seen on these trails.
We also organize day visits to the world famous Sun City resort located
only one hour’s drive from our base camp at Koedoeskop. On these day excursions
you can go on Hot Air Balloon rides; Elephant back safaris, Game drives
in the renowned Pilansberg National Park, visits to the Lion Park, Cheetah
breeding project and local cultural village. Shopping at the local African
crafts market is an unforgettable experience.
The South African coastline offers some of the finest big game fishing
in the world. Our waters are blessed with an abundance of Marlin, Tuna,
Yellowtail, Dorado, Great White Shark and Sailfish and you may have the
good fortune to hook one of these exotic game fish species. Charters with
a full complement of fishing tackle are available for deep-sea offshore
fishing. Prices for these adventurous fishing safaris available on request.
